Goals are created every year. Are we not familiar with our New Year’s resolutions? I too did create goals. In the passing days, the goals went into hibernation. This was happening time and again. At the same time, some goals I set were achieved. I was puzzled with myself. On one side, many goals are not getting achieved, and on the other, some goals are achieved. I started to think about this. I realized that things that I liked, for example. Playing cricket, and such goals used to get completed while study or career goals used to be either a half-baked approach or hibernated.

I started to seriously think about this and, more importantly, do something, as the cost of non-achievement of my critical goals was getting enormous.

I realized that there are many aspects to it. The most prominent aspect was “Willingness.” If the willingness to do something is strong, then the rest will automatically fall in place. Later I realized that willingness is a product of our self-confidence, interest/passion about the goal, and commitment to achieve. When these come together, then goals can be achieved.

If any of these three critical elements are not present in the right proportions, the goals will not be achieved. I found that before I set a goal for myself, I need to ensure that the quantum of the three aspects, i.e., confidence, interest/passion, and commitment, is present. This helped me to attain more goals and also remove goals that were not in line with what I wished to do.
