“Hesitance and unwillingness are two big hurdles to accomplishment.”
In my great enthusiasm, I made a long list of goals, and I thought I would accomplish all of them in a calendar year. The exuberance did last a great 90 days, and later it fizzled out. This happened year after year.
One day, I was walking alone and mentally started to evaluate my goals status. I realised that in had worked on just about 1 or 2 for a few days.
It was a sorry state of affairs, and I determined to change this. How to start and what to do was a big question. I started to read more about goal setting and execution. I contemplated why I was unable to sustain my efforts to achieve my goals. Two very important aspects I observed and realised that they were my biggest showstoppers. One was Hesitance, and the other was Unwillingness. At times, hesitance drove unwillingness and vice versa.
Then I started to understand more and realised that the cause of this was mostly laziness and fear of failure. Also, some goals I was not inspired by.
I did a thorough overhaul of my goals, redefined them more realistically, lessened the unnecessarily hyped expectations about myself, and found simple and practical ways to implement them.
Over time, I started to realise that hesitation and unwillingness slowly but steadily decreased. My passion to achieve my goals grew, and I could see small victories happening in my life. One thing I did not do was to celebrate small successes. But later in life, I learnt that too and started to celebrate my small victories. Today, as I write this, I am confident that I have a great understanding of the process of goal setting and execution.
