Success and excuses do not co-exist. We need to choose one of them.”

It was those times in my professional life when I felt that I was working very hard and had put in long hours, the effort-to-reward ratio was not proportional in my personal view.

This continued for a while, and one day I mustered up courage and went and talked to my boss. I asked him the question. “Sir, I seem to be putting a lot of effort, but the reward that I get doesn’t seem to be proportional. I am not talking only in monetary terms but in terms of growth as a professional.

He said “Good question, I can give you some inputs”. “Firstly, he said it’s not about effort, it’s about results. Secondly, it’s about getting more productive and contributing more than before. These two critical elements should be the cornerstones of your growth”. These two lines stayed with me, and they still do.

I started to dwell deeper into these and later realized that “achieving results that matter most to us in our life is Success”. However, with this realization came another thought: “Success and excuses do not co-exist, and we need to choose one of them”. This helped me to change my perspective to be more results-based and work on how to achieve more with what I had.
