“The will to do is far more important than the skill to do.”

This is one of the days that I was working at my office. It had been a long day, and I was a bit tired. My colleague walked in and looking at my face asked “Hey Chetlur you are still working, if you are done, let us go, I need a lift to my house today. My car is in the service station. I said, “Fine, give me 5 mins”.

At home, as I was sitting and sipping my cup of coffee, I started to recollect the day’s events. I was working on one of the Excel sheets and then I realized that I was focused and wanted to complete the Excel sheet despite many challenges that I had to face. Some formulas were not working well and so on. This is when this insight struck me. The will to do is far more important than the skill to do. Further, I realized that if we are not willing to do a particular task, it is immaterial whether we possess the skill to perform the task or not.

This greatly helped me at my workplace. Post this insight, I saw that I was focusing better on my tasks and completing them which gave me greater satisfaction.
